My take on video on Flickr

I have seen a few (not many) complaints about the decision to allow videos on Flickr witch prompted me to write this article.

First off I think their decision to offer video uploads only to “Pro” users was a good one, after all I would hate to see Flickr get weighted down with a bunch of bullshit such is the case with some sites such as YouTube.

Second I do worry about the “quality” of the videos that will be uploaded by even “paid subscribers”. I can agree that there are many services that deal exclusively in user upped videos, most popular of witch is YouTube, and we may not need yet another of these kinds of services.

On the side of Flickr however, I think they want to expand out to maybe capture a wider audience. Is this the right move for them? I can’t say.

In closing I would like to say that we are all users of some service or an other, and if one disproves of the way a service that person uses does things, that person has two options IMHO: Either stop using the service or rally together with a bunch of like-minded people to have the service changed. In some cases it is not possible to just stop using the service, in such a case your only choice is the latter of the two.

I hope I have not offended any one, please if you like post your comments below.
