Windows XP is coming to the end of it’s product life-cycle. Even though XP still has a huge fan base Microsoft is planning to stop selling XP as of Jan. 31, 2009, and has informed OEMs to stop selling computers with XP pre-installed on June 30, 2008. This should not come as a surprise to all you XP fans as this has been a Microsoft policy for some time now (think back to windows 2000). It also seams as though Microsoft has pushed Service Pack 3 for XP to next month (April).

Comcast/BT Part 12: FCC considers action
Posted by trm96 | Filed under Comcast, Technology News
This was ripped from an slashdot article here
"According to CNet the Federal Communications Commission is considering taking action against cable operator Comcast modifying peer-to-peer traffic, a subject we've discussed here in the past. 'It looks like Chairman Martin, and by extension the commission, sees Comcast as going beyond simply managing its network. But even if the FCC decides that Comcast has violated Net neutrality principles, it's unclear what the agency can actually do to Comcast. The principles are not agency regulation.'"

iPhone SDK have developers fired up.
Posted by trm96 | Filed under Apple News, Technology News
Apple has launched it’s iPhone SDK (software development kit) and has come under fire over it’s strict terms of service. Apple is not allowing for p2p VOIP (voice over internet protocol) apps like Skype, also competing web browsers Firefox and Opera are forbidden. Even Sun Microsystems had to withdraw its hopes for java on the platform, at least right now. Apple has even been compared to the likes of Comcast with their anti-net neutrality filtering, and Microsoft’s Netscape-killing antitrust tactics. But if you know Apple like I do you know they will eventually change their mind… Remember when Apple said no to 3rd party apps of any kind?

Firefox 3.0b4 and Acid tests.
Posted by trm96 | Filed under Technology News
It looks like Firefox 3 beta 4 for Mac still fails the Acid3 test but passes Acid2 test. It seems as though none of the modern browsers even Microsoft’s new Internet Explorer 8 beta 1 cannot pass, in fact IE8 does not even pass the Acid2 test.

This is what it is supposed to look like here.
