Leopard to get a torrent client?

It seems as though the good people over at Apple are throwing around the idea of a bittorrent client in their new OS. They would offer “a unique sharing reward system where the user can share bandwidth and get rewards, such as credit in the iTunes store.”

Leopard to maybe run Windows apps natively.

Thats right you heard (or read) it correct! According to Slashdot: It is believed that Apple “will offer in OS X 10.5 the ability to run native Windows XP applications with no copy of XP installed on the machine at all.”, and that “Apple will offer Windows Vista as an option for those big customers who demand it.”. Thats all according to Robert X. Cringely on “the reason behind Apple’s recent strategy of Boot Camp.” It’s going to be interesting to see just what Apple has in store for Leopard and as well as OS X as a whole. These certainly are strange times we are in.

Mac do Windows too? (Updated)

What does this mean…? Well, Apple went and made a boot loader so you could easily dual boot OSX with WinXP on your new shinny new intel based Mac. Apple has made it’s “Boot Camp” software available for free download on their site. Included with this beta release are Windows based drivers for Mac hardware, included of witch are: a drivers for the eject button on the Apple keyboard, Bluetooth, Graphics, Networking, Audio, AirPort wireless, and Brightness control for built-in displays. Apple also says “Word to the Wise Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it’ll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes.” Also “EFI and BIOS Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries.” It also seems that the folks at Apple will build in Boot Camp into the next version of OSX called Leopard (10.5). It seems as though Boot Camp is a Universal Binary (meaning it will run under PPC as well as Intel) even though it’s only supported on Intel Macs. Could this mean that eventually it will support multi-booting on PowerPC machines? I will be cool to find out how it will be supported on Leopard, will you be able to dual-boot PPC distros of Linux?

Who would have ever thought that you would ever be able to dual boot WinXP and MacOS, and that Apple would get so behind it and push it forward? These certainly are strange times for Apple, lets just hope they are making the right move…

System Requirements:

* The latest Firmware update
* At least 10GB free hard disk space
* An Intel-based Mac
* A printer for the instructions (You’ll want to print them before installing Windows, really.)
